World Refugee Day 2020
Since 2014, RefugeeConnect has hosted an invitation soccer tournament as an opportunity to welcome refugees in the Greater Cincinnati area. The World Refugee Soccer Cup is more than just a sporting event. This family-friendly celebration falls every year on World Refugee Day. Designated by the United Nations as a day to honor refugees around the globe, World Refugee Day falls on June 20th and celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. In Cincinnati, the World Refugee Soccer Cup is an opportunity to celebrate the rich cultural diversity of our city and to welcome our refugees to their new city.
Unfortunately, RefugeeConnect had to cancel this years event due to the global pandemic. While, we are unable to celebrate in person, we are committed to helping refugees feel a sense of belonging and an atmosphere of community. Throughout the day, in honor of refugees, we are sharing videos, opportunities for live virtual events hosted by partner agencies, and a slideshow of our past events and participants. We hope that you will join us in creating a sense of connection, hope, and community and in celebrating the diversity of our city.
We are yearning for the day when we can meet again in-person to offer our signature event and already gearing up to start our 2021 World Refugee Soccer Cup planning committee. If you are interested in volunteering with us or sitting on our planning committee please volunteer button on this page, submit your information, and we will contact you for details.
